Red, tired eyes are usually the product of multiple causes. Vision disorders are the first cause of eye fatigue and redness. Also, red eyes usually occur by mild or more severe factors, such as excessive use of the screen of your pc, lack of rest, dry eyes, some allergies, etc.

Go to the ophthalmologist
First of all, go to the eye doctor. It is essential to rule out any eye disease. Show your eye if you have had any mishaps, have conjunctivitis or any condition.
The ophthalmologist will prescribe you two types of eye drops:
- Eye drops to moisturize and bring artificial tears. What happens is that the glands do not produce enough tears, which causes dryness in the eyes. The eye doctor prescribes these drops because there is no natural lubrication of the Sclera, which triggers the dryness symptom. So, the first is to add these drops according to the advice of the eye doctor.
- The second type of drops he will prescribe will be to stop bacteria’s growth in the eye. The doctor can interpret the redness as extravasation or increased blood circulation, a micro-break of small vessels, which favors bacterial proliferation. As the alteration of natural protection mechanisms (e.g., tears), the risk is even greater.
The eye specialist will probably tell you that there is no need to take any additional medication.
Use cold water
Sometimes, the simplest thing is usually the most feasible. Coldwater is very beneficial for your body, especially for your face, if you want to activate yourself again because you have had a wrong time or have not been sleeping well. Cooling your face with cold water will quickly help relieve this problem.

Do not rub your eyes
Don’t ever rub your eye, much less like many people do, who rub their eyes a lot and get even redder.

Our body only needs a temperature of 25 to 30 degrees. If you live in a warm place, you have to try to cool down as much as possible.
Do not abuse of contact lenses
If you wear contact lenses, don’t overuse them and clean them thoroughly. Not abusing them means wearing them for eight to ten hours a day. If you wear them for 10 hours or more, you’ll have to split it up:
- Wear them a little bit in the morning.
- Rest when you get home to have lunch.
- Put them back on in the afternoon for another 4-5 hours.
Use the 20-20-20 rule
If you use a computer or electronic devices a lot, use the 20-20-20 standard. This rule is that you look up every 20 minutes and see some object that is about 20 feet away that is about six meters or so for 20 seconds.
That will cause your eyesight to relax, your vision to become a little more relaxed, your lens to become more comfortable, and you can continue to do the close-up task you are doing without eye strain.
Clean your eyelids
Do a good cleaning of your eyelids on the outside at least a couple of times a week. For this cleaning, you can use compresses moistened with warm water and eyelid wipes.
Do not use vasoconstrictive drops
Finally, very important, if you have red-eye, never use vasoconstrictive drops without consulting your medical professional. The use of these drops without knowing the cause of the redness in our eyes can negatively affect our health.

I always recommend everyone to wear sunglasses. It is an ideal complement to protect the eyes from outside pollution and dust. If you suffer from irritation or have red eyes often, make it a habit.
Rest is the BEST medicine
Try to get at least seven hours of sleep because fatigue greatly favors the red-eye. Reduce the hours you spend in front of your laptop and smartphone. If you live in a very sunny area, try to exercise at dawn or dusk, especially in summer.
Heat stress is one of the main problems for our Sclera. So, avoid this stress because both exercise and heat combined can be a powerful irritant.
Avoid anxiety and stress
Avoid attracting anxiety or fear of your mind. When there is something wrong with our mind, it always affects the body. You have to improve your mood anyway.
It may seem absurd to you, but everything that helps to maintain positive emotions will have tremendous consequences and positive results both in the eyes and in your body.
Laughing brings happiness and eliminates all the stress from the body. If you can laugh more, you will cure your red-eye problem more quickly.
If your mind feels sad, no eye drops will work. Overcoming negative emotions is essential.
Chamomile is excellent. It is a natural anti-inflammatory remedy par excellence. Try to use it to relieve redness and tired eyes because it is one of the best options you can use.
You only need to prepare a container with hot chamomile and let it cool down a bit, then spread some absorbent cotton on it and then apply it to your eyelids for about 5 to 10 minutes, or until you start noticing relief on them ( 9*, 10* )
Use the sliced cucumber
Cucumber is one of the best-known remedies for the proper treatment of your eyes; if you have seen it in movies or series, you will have noticed that people sometimes come out with cucumber slices on their eyes.
Sleep 8 hours
Sleeping is indispensable to function correctly; if we do not sleep enough, we may present problems in our eyes. The same happens to if we sleep too much, since everything in excess is usually negative too, try to balance your hours of rest correctly.
What causes red and bloodshot eyes?
Hemorrhages, blepharitis, styes, tiredness are some of the reasons we can have red-eye. Does it happen often? Do you want to know why it happens?
Red-eye is due to some excellent blood vessels dilation in our Sclera, the white part of the eye. It does not have to be worrying because it usually is due to the lack of sleep and the ocular tiredness either for reading closely or working many hours.
The most important thing is if there is pain. If it exists, we will go to the doctor urgently. If there is no pain, you will have to wait a couple of days to see if there is any broken vein in your eyes and the blood has to be reabsorbed.
We will wait a couple of days or three. If we still have the red-eye after those two or three days, we will go to the doctor’s.
The red-eye is a very general term that can be a symptom of other pathologies. Some are very serious, others are not so serious, and others are not even pathologies.
What are these pathologies? They can be, for example:
- Dry eye.
- Inappropriate use of contact lenses.
- Increased intraocular pressure.

I told you before if there is pain, the doctor will quickly, and if there is no pain, we will wait a couple of days to see if it goes away. If it doesn’t go away, we will go to the doctor because there may be some cause that is causing it, and that could become serious if we don’t take it in time.

There are times when we can avoid having red and tired eyes. However, there are many other times when we can’t. When can we avoid having red eyes?
These occasions are when we have red or tired eyes due to some situation we perform, for example:
- If we work too long in front of the computer, this makes us strain our eyes a lot, causing them to deteriorate and dry.
- Other times are when we are too frustrated. If we are thinking about something that bothers us or overwhelms us, we should try to relax.
- Other times it’s the result of not sleeping well. We need to sleep at least 8 hours if we haven’t been able to rest enough, we recommend that you sleep properly and without interruptions.
